Sometimes you just have to laugh...
The Nigerian FA have closed down their website in a bit of a furore.
It was, allegedly, a unrivalled source of information about the Nigerian players and appearences... and it was! Other sources actually gave honest facts...
You may have read about Obafemi Martins and the problems he's having with a transfer to Newcastle because they've got the impression that he's actually 6 years older than he actually is.
Well, it turns out that it all comes from a cockup by the Nigerian FA website last year when they wrongly put his birthday on the page, causing a media circus in Italy (where he plays for Inter Milan) when all the papers did the old "blindly believe whats on a website" trick and started a campaign against him for "cheating".
Even with the potential damage to his career this could have been easily overlooked if it was only one player, but only messing up one set of figures didn't show nearly enough ambition
It became hard to find anything on the site that fitted, they couldn't even keep track of appearences, long standing players were down as having never played, debut's were wrong, in fact any figure you care to name was normaly erroneous.
Probably the funniest is the story of Seyi Olofinjana. Olofinjana, according to the site, was born in November 15, 1982 and played for Nigeria on June 12, 1980 in a match against Malawi... Does he qualify as the youngest player ever?!
So rejoice, our FA only screws their PAs, not their players

hahahahah ! excellent AJ
