Why is it I now look at photography equipment and WANT it...?
For years I would go ages without photographing anything... and now I'm thinking about tripods, big memory cards, digital photo frames and even...
A digital SLR camera...
Problem is I'm a real amateur so I figure my camera is good enough, I look at the pics I've taken and wonder why I need anything better but I don't really have much experience re cameras.

I don't think I could justify a better camera right now, but that doesn't stop me ooh-ing and ahh-ing over SLRs.

I know where you're coming from - we both love taking snaps and fiddling with em, and Paddy has been droling over DSLRs for a while, but some of the pics we take are fantastic!

Pro Gotta say, been looking at your shots and I thought you might have one already.
I'm really, REALLY tempted despite the fact I'm happy with the pics I've been taking... got one in mind that's one of the cheapest but seemingly one of the best, top camera on Flickr too.
I'm just an amateur right now but I'd **like** to learn to be more technical.
I just take about three thousand pictures of the same thing with different settings, different exposure etc. I only share the best ones!
Out camera is bigger than the average compact, which I like cos it's good to hold, but not quite a DSLR. Not as much control over settings and things as I'd like - particularly focus.

team Despite the absolute lack of photos on my blog, I am an avid amateur too. Or, I was until my drunk friend broke my camera. And then Curry's refused to post it back to me from Ireland after repairs. And then the Irish (or German) postal system refused to deliver it to me when my ma tried to post it to me.
So, to conclude: I haven't had a camera for over a year due to reasons out of my control. But I want one. Unfortunately all the ones I want are ones that I can't afford. Fucking rent.
But I'm going to Ireland on Saturday so at least I can have my old one back...

Pro Lol, you have to love the postal system... especially international!
I'd say you can do a lot with your camera already - its a pretty good one, takes very clear and sharp shots, and you can do a lot of the manual stuff (a & s priority) if you want anyway.
What do you get with a DSLR? speed, better focus and exposure (maybe) quality, and a choice of very expensive extras
Unless you find yourself really limited with what you've got, save up for a DSLR for later. Just my tuppence.
