I'm wondering if a long lost enemy of mine might have shape shifting powers...

Last night I started to get buzzed by a fly, nothing strange there, but it was acting in a way normal flies don't.

For starters when it landed a quick flick of the affected area wouldn't scare it off, I actually had to hit it, and quite often belt it across the room... where it would wait, ready to pounce on me again at a moments notice.

It got around my ears making a racket, landed on my legs and bit me, even on my hand and bit me.

Then, on the times I fought it off it would pick a spot nearby and watch me... staring with a malevolence I've not seen before in an insect.

It wasn't just waiting... it was plotting...

More than once I actually heard it meeping weird noises as it sat there watching me...

Finally I got so ticked off when it landed on my leg and bit me I smacked it with a nearby collection of recipe cards, all in all the same mass and swing of a magazine...

But it didn't die...

I hit it twice more on the floor... and absolutely nothing happened, it just kept walking towards me.

Now, I'm sorry, I refuse normally to kill anything, I put spiders out the front door rather than kill them but this thing was walking at me with an attitude that made me wonder if my life for tonight had been handed over to Stephen King...

I finally grabbed it with a bug catcher after leaving it trapped under the cards for a minute. A bug catcher is a clear plastic box with a slidey lid so you can put it over a bug and shut the lid under it like a fancy version of a cup and card arrangement.

So I get it in the bug catcher and lift it close to look.

Not only is this four-times thwacked fly alive and in seemingly perfect condition but it's breathing hard flicking it's proboscis around and STARING at me...

The look said it all...

I will remember you and I will kill you.

I finally dumped it on the front doorstep and slammed the door on it before going to bed...

But I'll tell you something, I firmly expected to open the door this morning to go get the papers and find it hiding round the corner with a baseball bat...
